Year Six students at St John’s Primary, Riverstone have got lunchtime fun sorted.
Whether it’s Scattegories, Connect4, UNO, Dominoes or Chess, all students (and teachers!) from Kindergarten to Year 6 are sure to find a game to enjoy each Thursday at the school.
The Activity Club is an initiative of the Year 6 student leadership team and is linked with the social skills program aimed at building positive interactions between students as well as offering a fun alternative to the playground.
Principal, Patricia Charlton said the school purchased a range of games for the Club and left the rest up to Year Six to organise.
This has included the whole grade working together to plan activities and games in line with the developmental stage of students and organising rotations, schedules and student volunteers to run the program.
“It is teaching the students about being responsible for the stewardship of the games and building their capacity to cooperate, work together and engage with their peers across all grades,” Mrs Charlton said.
“It is great to see our senior students taking an active part in what’s happening in the school and they are very excited about the results.”
With increasing numbers each week, the Activity Club is certainly proving to be a success.
