Week 4 of Term 3 marked the beginning of our Book Week celebrations at St John’s. This year, the theme of Book Week is “Find your Treasure” with students being invited to use their imagination and make their stories come to life.
We kicked off the week on Tuesday with each stage working through short-listed book rotational activities, this involved having each stage organise an activity to accompany their short-listed book which they’ve been learning about in class, students then moved through each class learning about the different books that each stage has been working on while participating in the rotational activities that students had designed.
To add to the excitement, we had author Australian children’s author Lesley Gibbes visit St John’s. Lesley is the author behind ‘Scary Night’ and the chapter book series ‘Fizz’ which was awarded with CBCA Notable Book for Younger Readers in 2017 and included in the Best Children's Book of the Year list by Banks Street College, America 2018. Lesley spoke to the students about her life as an author and took questions from some aspiring young writers!
On Friday we focused on the theme of book week for this year, commencing the day with a treasure hunt through the school. Teachers placed clues around the grounds for their class to find, and at the end of the hunt, the students found a gold coin each along with a classroom treasure - a cooperative board game for their class!
Parents were then invited to visit our classrooms and share in the fantastic learning that has been taking place at St John’s.
After a shared morning tea with parents, we enjoyed Rug Reading together. Rug Reading is a time where parents and students share picture books outside on the grass, enjoying the natural sunlight.
We finished our celebrations with our Book Week character parade. It was fantastic to see so many creative outfits, even our teachers got involved by performing a Reader’s Theatre for students to enjoy!

Year 1 enjoyed a visit from Father Zak this week as a culmination to our Religion unit on 'Prayer'. 🙏 He spoke to the students about how prayer nourishes the soul and reminded us that Jesus is present in us all. The children loved listening to his stories and asked him LOTS of questions! Father Zak then shared a decade of The Rosary with the students. We are so grateful to share our learning with Father Zak. ✝️🤍02 Jul 2025
